Beginning Again Without Shame

Hi Reader!

Welcome to Purpose in Motion—where faith meets purpose and purpose fuels freedom.

Coming Back Stronger

Week Four: Starting Again Without Shame

Andrea's Note

Failure isn’t the biggest obstacle to finding purpose.

It’s actually shame.

Shame keeps us looking back, even when God wants us to move forward.

It makes us believe we’ve messed up too many times.

It says that others won’t understand.

It makes us think we should have known better.

But grace gives us a new story.

Grace reminds us that starting over doesn’t mean we’re weak.

It takes real courage.

I’ve had to start over myself, and I’ve learned that courage grows each time we use it. The first time I started over, I was a young single parent, healing from abuse and moving from military to civilian life. I know it was God’s grace that helped me and shaped me into who I am today.

This Week's Teaching

Starting something new often means letting go of what came before.

Sometimes, we need to let go of fear.

Other times, it might be regret.

We might also need to release the expectations we have set for ourselves.

God is never afraid when we begin again.

All through Scripture, God restores people who believed their stories had ended.

Think of Peter. Or Jonah. And Naomi. Even the woman caught in adultery.

Their stories show us that failure is never the end.

Grace always has the last word.

"Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame..." Isaiah 54:4

Everyday Obstacles

  • Feeling regret
  • Experiencing shame
  • Worrying about being judged
  • Being afraid to fail
  • Being hard on yourself

Faith-Based Solutions

Accept God's grace in your life.

Let go of mistakes from yesterday.

Take lessons from what you’ve been through.

Welcome new beginnings with an open heart.

Move forward with confidence into whatever comes next.

Becoming in Action

Try writing a letter to yourself as if it were from God's point of view.

Let it come from a place other than shame.

Avoid letting guilt guide your words.

Instead, let grace shape what you write.

Take a moment to read your letter each day this week.

This Week's Prayer

Lord,

Thank you for showing me that your grace is bigger than any mistake I have made.

Help me let go of what you have already forgiven.

Please give me the courage to start over.

Amen.

Reflection Question

  • Is there any shame I am still holding onto?
  • What are some things I have already been forgiven for?
  • In what areas might God be inviting me to start fresh?
  • How might courage show up for me today?
