Week 3: Finding Your Voice Again

Andrea's Note

At times in my life, I believed that keeping the peace meant staying silent.

You might know what that feels like too.

You want to speak up, but you hold back.

You know you should set a boundary, but you worry about how others might react.

You understand what you need, but asking for it feels uneasy.

Over time, staying silent can turn into a habit.

Sometimes we learned this through rejection.

Other times, it came from disappointment.

Sometimes it was because we were in relationships where being honest didn't feel safe.

And sometimes, we got so used to looking after everyone else that we stopped listening to ourselves.

But finding your voice isn't just about speaking more loudly; it's about trusting that your faith in God guides you to speak with

wisdom, confidence, honesty, and kindness.

It's about feeling secure enough to speak with wisdom, confidence, honesty, and kindness.

This week, let's explore how we can find that voice again.

Purpose In Perspective

God gave you your voice for a reason.

But that doesn't mean you need to speak about everything.

Wisdom also shows us when it's better to stay silent.

However, we shouldn't let fear make that choice for us all the time.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves..." Proverbs 31:8

Many women learn to stay quiet because of life's experiences.

Going through trauma can make someone feel like they have to stay silent.

Disappointment can also make people hold back their voices.

Experiencing abuse can lead someone to keep quiet.

Trying to please others can make you stay silent too.

Sometimes, staying silent feels necessary just to get by.

Some of these coping strategies might have helped you get through tough times, but they can also keep you from living out your purpose later on.

Finding your voice isn't about being the loudest person in the room.

It's about feeling confident enough to share your values, beliefs, needs, boundaries, and the perspective you believe God has given you.

I've had to learn this lesson too.

There were times when I believed that setting boundaries meant I was being selfish.

I used to think that speaking up about my needs made me difficult.

But as I grew, I learned that wasn't true.

Boundaries aren't barriers; they're a sign of wisdom.

Having a voice doesn't mean you're unkind.

It means you're learning to speak up in a healthier way.

Everyday Obstacles

Fear of Rejection: We sometimes worry that being honest will make others dislike us.

People-Pleasing: We can focus so much on making others comfortable that we forget our own needs.

Fear of Conflict: We might think that being honest will always lead to conflict.

Old Survival Patterns: Sometimes staying quiet felt like the safest choice, but with faith and prayer, you can learn to step out of survival mode and speak with courage and trust in God's plan.

Faith-Based Solutions

Start with something small. You don't need a microphone or a stage to discover your voice.

Begin by trying:

  • Having one honest conversation.
  • Setting one healthy boundary.
  • Saying one respectful no.
  • Sharing one difficult truth with kindness.

Before you speak, take a moment to pray: "God, give me wisdom for what to say, courage to say what needs to be said, and grace in how I say it."

Then trust God with how others respond.

Finding your voice doesn't mean controlling how someone receives it. It's about being faithful in how you use it.

Becoming in Action

Think of a situation where you stayed quiet when you didn't need to. Try not to confront anyone right away.

Take a moment to pray.

Write out what you truly want to say.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Is what I want to say true?
  • Is it important to share this?
  • Can I express this kindly?

When the right moment comes, speak up. You don't have to raise your voice. You don't need to apologize for being yourself.

Just speak with wisdom and courage.

Reflection Questions

  • What do I fear might happen if I speak honestly?
  • In what areas of my life could I set better boundaries?
  • Have I been calling something 'keeping the peace' when it might really be fear?
  • How could I use my voice with wisdom and grace this week?

Continue the Conversation

This week, we're wrapping up the Empowered to Live series with a final conversation from Rediscovering Who You Are.

As you keep moving forward, remember:

Your voice matters, not just for you.

Sharing your story could encourage someone else.

Your courage might inspire another woman to speak up too.

Choosing not to hold back can help you become the woman God wants you to be.

Next week, we'll bring everything together as we talk about Becoming Her.

I pray God will give you the courage to speak at the right time and the boldness to respond.

Keep growing. Keep becoming.
