When Plan B Changes Too

Coming Back Stronger

Week Five: When the Setback Changes the Plan

Andrea's Note

So far this month, we've discussed setbacks, rebuilding, recovery, and starting over.

But there’s another part of the journey that many of us go through.

What happens after you’ve accepted the setback?

You make a new plan.

You start moving forward.

And then, everything changes again.

If you’ve ever felt like life keeps moving the finish line, you’re not alone. I experienced this myself recently with my surgery schedule. I was ready for my first date, but it was rescheduled at the last minute. I felt sad, but it gave me time for something I would have missed otherwise. Then, as I prepared for the new date, it changed again. I’ve learned that faith isn’t just about trusting God through the first disappointment.

Sometimes, faith means trusting Him when Plan B suddenly turns into Plan C or even Plan D.

This Week's Teaching

Many people think that if we let go of our own plans and trust in faith, life will suddenly make sense and become predictable.

But life often turns out differently.

Sometimes we have to adapt.

We take time to heal.

We start to rebuild.

Eventually, we feel like we’re making progress.

Then, out of nowhere, something changes again.

In those times, we might find ourselves asking: "God...now what?"

But Scripture reminds us that our plans are always temporary.

God’s purpose, however, is lasting.

Just because your plans change doesn’t mean you’ve missed God’s will.

Sometimes it just means God is showing you the next step, one day at a time.

I’ve learned that peace doesn’t come from having everything planned out perfectly.

Real peace comes from trusting the One who already knows where we’re headed.

"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Proverbs 16:9

Everyday Obstacles

When our plans change once more, we might feel:

  • Tired of constant changes
  • Frustrated
  • Worried about what might happen next
  • Discouraged
  • Emotionally drained
  • Wanting to control everything

Faith-Based Solutions

Rather than asking, "Why does this keep happening?"

Consider asking, "Lord, what are You showing me in this season?"

This week, you might:

✔ Focus on the present moment instead of hurrying into the future.

✔ Be open to change when things don’t go as planned.

✔ Take time to listen for God's guidance before you respond.

✔ Find ways to encourage others while you wait.

✔ Remember that God's purpose is bigger than your own schedule.

Becoming in Action

This week, make two columns in your journal.

My Plans

List the plans that have changed for you over the past year.

Next, add a second column and give it a title.

God's Faithfulness

Next to each plan that changed, write down a way you noticed God providing, strengthening, guiding, or teaching you through that situation.

You might be surprised to see that even when your plans changed, God was always there.

This Week's Prayer

Father,

Sometimes I feel tired when life keeps changing.

Help me let go of my need to control everything and trust that You are guiding me.

When my plans change, remind me that Your purpose always stays the same.

Teach me to move forward with confidence, flexibility, and peace, knowing You are always working for my good.

Amen.

Reflection Question

  • Which unexpected change has been the most difficult for me to accept?
  • In what ways have I noticed God staying faithful, even when my plans have changed?
  • Do I find myself trusting my own plans more than relying on God's presence?
  • Is there an area in my life where God might be inviting me to let go of control?
